Multi Purpose Vehicle – The Seat Alhambra

The Seat Alhambra is the brand’s most recent foray into the seven seater multi purpose vehicle (MPV) market and this economical people carrier might be the best the company has ever built. Effectively this is the Seat interpretation of the VW Sharan and it is none the worse for that; in fact without VW behind the design it is unlikely that the Alhambra would be as good as it is. Although the car is Spanish there are none of the Spanish practices of old used at the Seat Factory; this car reflects the quality of VW owned Seat and with a far more affordable price tag than the alternative VW equivalent model. The car is built in Portugal as a stable mate to the Sharan and it utilises the same engine line-up, which includes an excellent choice of diesel engines along with a six speed manual gearbox as standard. There are sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle which are electrically operated on the more luxurious SE LUX trim or as an optional extra on the standard SE. The middle row of seats slides and it is possible to fold all of the seats (with the exclusion of the driver’s seat) flat giving a massive load space. The car also drives very well and for such a large beast its handling characteristics are acceptable, though there is a noticeable body roll when cornering sharply; however, the traction stability control system will keep the car pointing in the right direction. The car might be a little underpowered for some, as the 2.0 litre diesel engine’s 138 bhp might struggle when the vehicle is heavily laden. If you are happy with an economical and practical vehicle and you are not too concerned about being fast off from the lights, then this people carrier makes a lot of sense. If you want to find out more information on this vehicle or any other check out used cars from motors.co.uk
